Manual Transmission Transaxle Left Halfshaft Seal (G1353054) / Removal and Installation

REMOVAL

WARNING:

Make sure to support the vehicle with axle stands.

Raise and support the vehicle.

Remove the LH halfshaft.

Refer to: Front Left Halfshaft (205-04 Front Drive Halfshafts, Removal and Installation).

CAUTIONS:

  • Take extra care not to damage the mating faces.
  • Make sure that the area around the component is clean and free of foreign material.

NOTE:

Some oil spillage is inevitable during this operation.

Special Tool(s): 303-1300

INSTALLATION

CAUTION:

Take extra care not to damage the seal.

Special Tool(s): 307-596

Install the LH halfshaft.

Refer to: Front Left Halfshaft (205-04 Front Drive Halfshafts, Removal and Installation).

WARNING:

Observe due care when draining, as the fluid can be very hot.

WARNING:

Make sure to support the vehicle with axle stands.

NOTE:

Make sure that the vehicle is standing on a level surface.

Raise and support the vehicle.

Refer to: Engine Undershield (501-02 Front End Body Panels, Removal and Installation).

Clean the area around the transmission shift detent.

CAUTION:

Be prepared to collect escaping fluids.

  • Place a container under the transmission.
  • Remove the transmission shift detent.

Clean the area around the transmission fluid drain plug.

CAUTION:

Be prepared to collect escaping fluids.

NOTE:

Discard the sealing washer.

  • Place a container under the transmission.
  • Remove the transmission fluid drain plug.

CAUTION:

Make sure that a new sealing washer is installed.

  1. Install the drain plug

Renew Part: Transfer case drain plug washer.

Torque: 30 Nm

Use transmission fluid meeting Land Rover specification.

Refer to: Specifications (308-00, Specifications).

Fill the transmission with 1.5 litres of Castrol BOT 350 M3 transmission fluid.

CAUTIONS:

  • Do not over tighten the filler plug. Failure to follow this instruction may result in damage to the actuator assembly.
  • This is a filler plug only and must not be used as a fluid level indicator.

NOTE:

Torque: 35 Nm
