Land Rover Discovery: Rear Drive Halfshafts Rear Right Halfshaft (G1791655) - Installation

Installation

NOTE:

This step is only required if previously removed.

  1. On vehicles without active driveline: Refer to: Rear Halfshaft Seal (205-02A Rear Drive Axle/Differential - Vehicles Without: Active Driveline, Removal and Installation).
  2. On vehicles with active driveline: Refer to: Rear Halfshaft Seal (205-02B Rear Drive Axle/Differential - Vehicles With: Active Driveline, Removal and Installation).

NOTE:

Make sure a new retaining ring is to be installed.

Rear drive halfshafts rear right halfshaft (G1791655) - Installation

CAUTIONS:

  • Pull on the halfshaft inboard joint to make sure the clip has fully engaged and retains the halfshaft inboard joint within the differential case.
  • Keep the halfshaft horizontal to avoid damaging the oil seal.

NOTE:

Do not fully engage the halfshaft into the axle assembly until the oil seal protector has been removed.

Rear drive halfshafts rear right halfshaft (G1791655) - Installation

Make sure the snap ring is fully engaged and retains the halfshaft

CAUTIONS:

  • Install the retained nut.
  • Do not use air tools to install the nut. Failure to follow this instruction may result in damage to the component.
  • Tighten the nut without the weight of the vehicle on the suspension.

Rear drive halfshafts rear right halfshaft (G1791655) - Installation

Torque: 175 Nm

Remove and discard the halfshaft retaining nut.

WARNING:

Install a new nut.

CAUTIONS:

  • Do not use air tools to install the nut. Failure to follow this instruction may result in damage to the component.
  • Tighten the nut without the weight of the vehicle on the suspension.

Rear drive halfshafts rear right halfshaft (G1791655) - Installation

Torque:

  • Stage 1: 100 Nm
  • Stage 2: 90º

To install, reverse the removal procedure.

Refer to: Wheel and Tire (204-04 Wheels and Tires, Removal and Installation).

  1. Fill the differential case with fluid - on vehicles without active driveline: Refer to: Differential Draining and Filling (205-02A Rear Drive Axle/Differential - Vehicles Without: Active Driveline, General Procedures).
  2. Fill the differential case with fluid - on vehicles with active driveline: Refer to: Differential Draining and Filling (205-02B Rear Drive Axle/Differential - Vehicles With: Active Driveline, General Procedures).

Check the wheel alignment and adjust as necessary.
