Land Rover Discovery: Front Suspension Shock Absorber and Spring Assembly (G1779643) - Installation

Installation

All vehicles

NOTE:

Make sure that the component is installed to the noted removal position.

Torque: 32 Nm

Make sure that this component is installed to the noted removal position.

Vehicles with dynamic suspension

Remove the special tool.

Vehicles without dynamic suspension

Front suspension shock absorber and spring assembly (G1779643) - Installation

Remove the special tool.

All vehicles

CAUTION:

Install a new retaining bolt and nut

Front suspension shock absorber and spring assembly (G1779643) - Installation

Renew Part: Shock absorber to wheel knuckle mounting nut and bolt.

Torque:

Stage 1: 80 Nm

Stage 2: 180º

  1. Remove the equipment shown.
  • General Equipment: Transmission jack
  • General Equipment: Wooden Block

Vehicles with dynamic suspension

CAUTION:

Make sure the wiring harness and electrical connectors are not damaged during this operation.

WARNING:

Make sure that a new nut is installed.

CAUTION:

Make sure that the ball joint ball does not rotate.

Renew Part: Tie-rod end nut.

Torque: 133 Nm

CAUTION:

Install a new retaining bolt and nut

Renew Part: Wheel knuckle nut and bolt.

Torque:

Stage 1: 80 Nm

Stage 2: 180º

CAUTIONS:

Make sure that the brake hose is not twisted and is correctly located.

Make sure that new bolts are installed.

Renew Part: Brake caliper carrier bolts.

Torque:

Vehicles fitted with 18'' brakes.

Stage 1: 110 Nm

Stage 2: 120º

M14 bolts 200 Nm

M12 bolts

Stage 1: 90 Nm

Stage 2: 120º

Vehicles with dynamic suspension

WARNING:

Make sure that a new nut is installed.

Renew Part: Stabilizer bar link upper nut.

Torque: 70 Nm

Vehicles without dynamic suspension

WARNING:

Make sure that a new nut is installed.

Front suspension shock absorber and spring assembly (G1779643) - Installation

Renew Part: Stabilizer bar link upper nut.

Torque: 70 Nm

All vehicles

Front suspension shock absorber and spring assembly (G1779643) - Installation

WARNING:

Make sure that a new nut is installed.

CAUTIONS:

  • Do not use air tools to install the nut. Failure to follow this instruction may result in damage to the component.
  • Tighten the nut without the weight of the vehicle on the suspension.

Renew Part: Front halfshaft nut.

Torque:

Stage 1: 100 Nm

Stage 2: 90º

Refer to: Wheel and Tire (204-04 Wheels and Tires, Removal and Installation).

Lower the vehicle.

Depress the brake pedal several times, check the fluid level in the brake fluid reservoir and top-up with brake fluid if necessary.

Check the wheel alignment and adjust as necessary.
