Land Rover Discovery: Side Panel Sheet Metal Repairs Rocker Panel (G1770907) - Removal

NOTE:

The rocker panel is installed in conjunction with:

  • Front bumper cover
  • Front fender
  • Front fender splash shield
  • Front door
  • Rear door
  • front seat
  • Rear seat cushion
  • Cowl side trim panel
  • B-Pillar lower trim panel
  • Front scuff plate trim panel
  • Front safety belt retractor
  • Rear quarter panel moulding
  • Rocker panel moulding

Side panel sheet metal repairs rocker panel (G1770907) - Removal

  1. The rocker panel is serviced as indicated.
  2. Before commencing this procedure make sure that you are aware of all Health and Safety requirements.

NOTES:

  • Any joints sealed as part of vehicle manufacture must be sealed as part of the repair.
  • Make sure a zinc rich primer is applied to any bare metal surfaces.

  14. Release and position the floor carpet to one side.
  15. Release and position the floor Noise, Vibration and Harshness (NVH) material to one side.
  16. Release and position the bulkhead NVH material to one side.
  17. Release and position the wiring harness to one side
  18. Remove the front door lower door hinge from the A pillar.
  19. Remove the rear door lower door hinge from the B pillar.
  20. Using a combination of the new rocker panel and the measurements mark out the position on the vehicle where the Metal Inert Gas (MIG) brazed butt joints are to be made. Cut through the panel as indicated.

CAUTION:

Care should be taken not to cut through into the inner reinforcements.

  1. Remove the spot welds as indicated.

NOTE:

Avoid where possible damaging the NVH components located behind the rocker panel.

  1. Separate the joints and remove the rocker panel, also releasing the NVH components as indicated.
