Land Rover Discovery: Side Panel Sheet Metal Repairs 'A' Pillar Outer Panel (G1770902) - Removal

NOTE:

The A-pillar outer panel is installed in conjunction with:

• Front bumper cover
• Hood
• Front fender
• Fender splash shield
• Front door
• Instrument panel
• Windshield glass
• Headliner
• Side air curtain module
• Front scuff plate trim panel
• A-pillar trim panel
• Front seat

1. The A-pillar outer panel is serviced as indicated.
2. Before commencing this procedure make sure that you are aware of all Health and Safety requirements.

NOTES:

• Any joints sealed as part of vehicle manufacture must be sealed as part of the repair.
• Make sure a zinc rich primer is applied to any bare metal surfaces.

15. Release and position the floor carpet to one side.
16. Release and position the floor Noise, Vibration and Harshness (NVH) material to one side.
17. Release and position the wiring harness along the A-pillar inner and inner rocker panel to one side.
18. Remove the upper and lower front door hinges from the A-pillar.

CAUTION:

Care should be taken not to cut through into the inner reinforcements.

19. Mark out the positions where the A-pillar outer panel upper and lower Metal Inert Gas (MIG) butt joints are to be made. Cut through the panel as indicated.

20. Remove the spot welds as indicated.

21. Remove the spot welds as indicated.

22. Remove the spot welds as indicated.

NOTE:

Avoid where possible damaging the NVH components located behind the A-pillar outer panel.

23. Carefully separate the joints and remove the panel.
