Land Rover Discovery: Front Suspension Wheel Knuckle (G1778608) - Installation

NOTE:

This step is only required if previously removed.

Vehicles with dynamic suspension

Front suspension wheel knuckle (G1778608) - Installation

Remove the special tool.

Front suspension wheel knuckle (G1778608) - Installation

CAUTION:

Install a new retaining bolt and nut.

Front suspension wheel knuckle (G1778608) - Installation

Renew Part: Wheel knuckle nut and bolt.

Torque:

Stage 1: 80 Nm

Stage 2: 180º

CAUTION:

Make sure the wiring harness and electrical connectors are not damaged during this operation.

Vehicles without dynamic suspension

Front suspension wheel knuckle (G1778608) - Installation

Remove the special tool.

CAUTION:

Install a new retaining bolt and nut.

Renew Part: Wheel knuckle nut and bolt.

Torque:

Stage 1: 80 Nm

Stage 2: 180º

All vehicles

WARNING:

Make sure that a new nut is installed.

CAUTION:

Make sure that the ball joint ball does not rotate.

Renew Part: Tie-rod end nut.

Torque: 133 Nm

Front suspension wheel knuckle (G1778608) - Installation

Torque: 10 Nm

Front suspension wheel knuckle (G1778608) - Installation

Torque: 10 Nm

Front suspension wheel knuckle (G1778608) - Installation

Torque: 35 Nm

CAUTION:

LH illustration shown, RH is similar.

CAUTION:

Install a new retaining bolt and nut.

Renew Part: Wheel knuckle nut and bolt.

Torque:

Stage 1: 80 Nm

Stage 2: 180º

CAUTIONS:

  • Make sure that the brake hose is not twisted and is correctly located.
  • Make sure that new bolts are installed.

Front suspension wheel knuckle (G1778608) - Installation

Renew Part: Brake caliper carrier bolts.

Torque:

Vehicles fitted with 18'' brakes.

Stage 1: 110 Nm

Stage 2: 120º

M14 bolts 200 Nm

M12 bolts

Stage 1: 90 Nm

Stage 2: 120º

CAUTIONS:

  • Install the retained nut.
  • Do not use air tools to install the nut. Failure to follow this instruction may result in damage to the component.
  • Tighten the nut without the weight of the vehicle on the suspension.

Front suspension wheel knuckle (G1778608) - Installation

Torque: 175 Nm

WARNING:

Install a new nut.

CAUTIONS:

  • Do not use air tools to install the nut. Failure to follow this instruction may result in damage to the component.
  • Tighten the nut without the weight of the vehicle on the suspension.

Renew Part: Front halfshaft nut.

Torque:

Stage 1: 100 Nm

Stage 2: 90º

WARNING:

Make sure that a new nut is installed.

CAUTION:

Make sure that the ball joint ball does not rotate.

Front suspension wheel knuckle (G1778608) - Installation

Renew Part: Stabilizer bar link nuts.

Torque: 65 Nm

Refer to: Wheel and Tire (204-04 Wheels and Tires, Removal and Installation).

Lower the vehicle.

Depress the brake pedal several times, check the fluid level in the brake fluid reservoir and top-up with brake fluid if necessary.

Check the wheel alignment and adjust as necessary.
