Installation

NOTES:

  • Steps 1 to 5 must only be performed to the components were previously removed.
  • Steps 14 to 20 must be performed to the components on both sides of the vehicle.

All vehicles

Install the noise, vibration and harshness damper.

Torque: 24 Nm

Install the steering gear.

Torque: 189 Nm

  1. Install the exhaust hanger bracket.

    Torque: 20 Nm

  2. Secure the steering gear wiring harness

Install the stabilizer bar.

Uni-body, subframe and mounting system front subframe (G2028440) - Installation

  1. Install the suspension lower control arms. Renew the nuts and bolts.

    Renew Part: Lower control arm bolt.

    Renew Part: Lower control arm nut and bolt.

  2. (1) Lower control arm front bolt.

    Torque: Stage 1: 140 Nm Stage 2: 45º

  3. (2) Lower suspension control arm rear nuts and bolts for vehicles fitted with 18" brakes.

Torque:

Stage 1: 115 Nm

Stage 2: 240º

  1. (2) Lower suspension control arm rear nuts and bolts for vehicles fitted with 17" brakes.

Torque: 175 Nm

Uni-body, subframe and mounting system front subframe (G2028440) - Installation

Install the special tools to the front subframe.

Special Tool(s): 502-012

  1. Using a suitable stand, install the subframe.
  2. Allow the special tools to control the position of the front subframe.

Renew and install the front subframe front retaining bolts.

Renew Part: Front subframe to body bolts.

Torque:

Stage 1: 140 Nm

Stage 2: 240º

Remove the special tools Special Tool(s): 502-012

Install the front subframe to body cross member. Renew the M16 bolts.

Renew Part: Front subframe to body bolts.

Torque:

M16

Stage 1: 140 Nm

Stage 2: 240º

M10 45 Nm

Remove the stand.

Connect the engine steady bar.

Torque: 110 Nm

Connect the transmission steady bar.

Torque: 25 Nm

Connect the suspension lower control arm ball joints. Renew the nut and bolts

Renew Part: Lower control arm nut and bolt.

Torque:

Stage 1: 80 Nm

Stage 2: 180º

Connect the brake calipers. Renew the bolts.

Renew Part: Brake caliper carrier bolts.

Torque:

M12 bolts

Stage 1: 90 Nm

Stage 2: 120º

M14 bolts

Stage 1: 110 Nm

Stage 2: Loosen: 120º

Connect the tie rod end. Renew the nuts Renew Part: Tie-rod end nut.

Torque: 133 Nm

CAUTION:

Make sure that the ball joint ball does not rotate.

Connect the front stabilizer bar link lower ball joint. Renew the nut.

Torque: 55 Nm

  1. Connect the tire pressure monitor sensor.
  2. Secure the front wheel arch liner.

Install the suspension height sensors.

Refer to: Front Suspension Height Sensor (204-05 Vehicle Dynamic Suspension, Removal and Installation).

Install the front wheels and tires.

Refer to: Wheel and Tire (204-04 Wheels and Tires, Removal and Installation).

Secure the front exhaust hangers.

  1. Connect the exhaust sensor wiring harness.
  2. Install the exhaust sensor wiring harness bracket.

Torque: 12 Nm

Vehicles with diesel particulate filter (DPF)

Connect and secure the DPF sensor wiring harness.

All vehicles

Connect the steering gear wiring harness.

Secure the front bumper.

Torque: 10 Nm

Install the front bumper tow eye cover.

Torque: 10 Nm

CAUTION:

Make sure that the specified torque is not exceeded, or the retaining studs may shear and damage the body panel.

Install the steering gear bulkhead seal. Renew the nuts

Torque: 2.2 Nm

CAUTION:

Do not allow the steering wheel to rotate once the steering column is disconnected.

Connect the lower steering column to the steering gear. Renew the bolt.

Renew Part: Steering column lower shaft lower bolt.

Secure the drivers footwell carpet.

Using only four wheel alignment equipment approved by Land Rover, check and adjust the wheel alignment.

Refer to: Four Wheel Alignment (204-00 Suspension System - General Information, General Procedures).

Check the suspension system ride height.
