Land Rover Discovery: Rear end Sheet Metal Repairs Inner Quarter Panel Assembly (G1770950) - Removal

Removal

NOTE:

The inner quarter panel assembly is installed in conjunction with:

• Rear bumper cover
• Side panel
• Quarter panel
• Quarter panel lower extension
• Fuel tank
• Fuel tank filler pipe
• Rocker panel
• Roof rear panel
• Roof panel
• Glass roof panel
• Rear subframe
• Liftgate

1. The inner quarter panel assembly is serviced as indicated.
2. Before commencing this procedure make sure that you are aware of all Health and Safety requirements.

3. For further information on the methods, tools and fixings used in this procedure refer to the body repairs - general information section.

NOTES:

• Any joints sealed as part of vehicle manufacture must be sealed as part of the repair.
• Make sure a zinc rich primer is applied to any bare metal surfaces.
• To make sure that the vehicle is correctly aligned, it must be placed on a Land Rover approved alignment jig.

NOTE:

Right hand only.

15. Remove the occasional seats.
16. Release and position the floor carpet to one side.
17. Release and position the floor noise, vibration, harshness (NVH) material to one side.
18. Release and position to one side the wiring harness along the inner quarter panel and back panel.

NOTE:

The quarter panel will require the following cut to be made to allow installation of the inner quarter panel assembly.

20. Mark and cut the quarter panel as indicated.

21. Remove the liftgate buffer as indicated.

22. Remove the rear floor brace and bracket as indicated.

NOTE:

Do not discard the bracket as it is used in installation.

23. Remove the bolts and the bracket as indicated.

24. Remove the spot welds as indicated.

25. Remove the spot welds as indicated.

26. Remove the spot welds as indicated.

27. Remove the spot welds as indicated.

28. Remove the spot welds as indicated.

29. Remove the spot welds as indicated.

30. Remove the spot welds as indicated.

31. Remove the spot welds as indicated.

32. Remove the spot welds as indicated.

CAUTION:

This step will require the aid of another person as the panel will be heavy.

33. Carefully separate the joints and remove the inner quarter panel assembly.

CAUTION:

Once the inner quarter panel assembly has been removed support is required to hold the upper panels in position until the new inner quarter panel assembly has been installed.

34. Make sure that the upper panels are supported.
