Land Rover Discovery: Rear end Sheet Metal Repairs Rear Side Member Section (G1770933) - Removal

NOTE:

The rear side member section is installed in conjunction with:

  • Rear bumper
  • Rear bumper retaining rail
  • Rear lamp assembly
  • Rear lamp panel outer
  • Back panel outer
  • Back panel inner
  • Quarter panel lower extension
  • Loadspace trim panel
  • Spare wheel well
  • Rear side member lower side extension
  • Rear floor side extension
  • Rear side member closing panel
  • Rear bumper mounting upper
  • Rear bumper mounting lower
  • Rear subframe
  • Fuel tank

NOTE:

The rear side member section is detached from the rear side member service condition panel.

Rear end sheet metal repairs rear side member section (G1770933) - Removal

  1. The rear side member section is serviced as indicated.
  2. Before commencing this procedure make sure that you are aware of all Health and Safety requirements.

NOTES:

  • Any joints sealed as part of vehicle manufacture must be sealed as part of the repair.
  • Make sure a zinc rich primer is applied to any bare metal surfaces.
  • To make sure the vehicle is correctly aligned. It must be placed on a Land Rover approved alignment jig.

Rear end sheet metal repairs rear side member section (G1770933) - Removal

  1. Mark measure and cut the rear side member outer reinforcement where the metal inert gas (MIG) butt joint is to be made as indicated.

  1. Remove the spot welds as indicated.
  2. Carefully separate the joints and remove the rear side member outer reinforcement.

  1. Mark measure and cut the rear side member section where the MIG butt joint is to be made as indicated.

  1. Remove the spot as indicated.
  2. Carefully separate the joints and remove the rear side member section.

CAUTION:

Care should be taken not to cut into the rear side member when cutting the rear side member inner reinforcement.

  1. Mark measure and cut the rear side member inner reinforcement where the MIG butt joint is to be made as indicated.
  2. Carefully separate the joints and remove the rear side member inner reinforcement.
